Homosassa…..

I was inspired this morning by Humbled Pie (www.humbledpie.wordpress.com). He posted some photos from Homosassa, Fl. I’ve been there many times to visit the manatees (wild and captive). This is not the best manatee photo, but it is one of my favorites from when we visited Homosassa Springs park. They have quite a few manatees who are there year round. This manatee arrived because one of the volunteers was about to do an educational presentation that involved feeding them carrots. They were crazy for those carrots!

Florida is not just beaches….

I love the beaches in Florida, but I also love some of the inland sections too! This hanging moss can be found all over in the woods down there, very different than what you find up here in NJ. I think it looks very interesting when the light shines through it! (I took this while hiking the trails at Myakka State Park, outside of Sarasota, Fl)

Sea Urchin Friends…

Sea urchins on the beach in Long Boat Key, Fl. 2 years ago in February, the beach was covered with these guys. I managed to bring 1 shell home in tact! They were in beautiful colors of reds oranges and purples. These 2 looked like a parent and child pair 🙂

Take a walk on the beach….

One of my favorite past times is walking on a beach. Any beach will do!  In LBK, walk at low tide and you’ll find LOTS of shells, sand dollars and random little creatures… oh and depending on when you are there, you will also find ME!

Bright Idea….

A random bright cloud opposite the sunset at Long Boat Key… so many amazing colors in every direction! I always thought this made Dave look like he had the brightest idea ever!

Fishing at sunset…

I wasn’t fishing, but the silhouette in this photo was.. I love the colors in this sunset. I didn’t do any digital darkroom processing, cause whether it needs it or not, I like it just the way it is! Enjoy!

Nightly Ritual….

Here’s another photo taken just about a year ago. Long Boat Key, Florida. Sunset. Saw these little guys every night for a week. I would bet that they were the exact same birds I saw every night too! A wonderful way to end their day and mine! (Please excuse the burn out/over exposure of the extremely bright sun!)

One Year ago this week….

Last year at this time, we were in Long Boat Key, Florida. One of our favorite spots. During that trip we drove up to Ozello for a guided kayak tour, on the search for manatees! Kayaking was a great “hands off” approach to view these beautiful creatures. We saw quite a few all at once… it was all so quick and sudden when they would come to the surface, that I never got my camera out in time to snap a photo of them. While I was disappointed about not getting a picture, I will NEVER forget when one manatee came right up to the side of our kayak and looked me right in the eyes! He was just looking up saying hello thanks for caring 🙂
